Network UPS Tools (or NUT for short) is a handy, open-source web app that helps you manage various power devices. This includes things like Power Distribution Units, Solar Controllers, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS). It's pretty cool because it can work with a wide range of devices.
This software has some great features! It lets you monitor and control your devices easily. Plus, it supports over 100 different manufacturers—if you're curious about which ones, check out their list here. There are thousands of models available and it works with several communication types too, like USB and serial connections.
The project has both client and server parts. The server runs a single command in the background while clients connect to it. There are six commands in the client that serve different purposes. If you want to know what each command can do, just add ‘—help’ at the end of the command line!
If you’re ready to get started, installing Network UPS Tools is super easy! You can find pre-built binaries in the main software repositories for many Linux distributions. Just open your package manager, search for ‘nut’, and click install. If you're using an OS where it's not available as a pre-built binary, don’t worry—you can still install it through the source package.
This tool is really versatile! It's written in C and supports multiple platforms including various GNU/Linux distributions like Arch Linux, Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, and more. It also works on BSD flavors like FreeBSD and even on operating systems like Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Both 32-bit and 64-bit systems are supported!
