Description

Netmate

Netmate is a cool, open-source software that’s really easy to use. It’s free and works on multiple platforms! With Netmate, you can see network protocol headers all lined up in neat 32-bit fields, just like they are shown in RFCs (Request for Comments). This tool takes inspiration from the Netdude software.

Learn Network Protocols Easily

If you’re into teaching or learning about network protocols, Netmate is perfect for you. It helps explain how different protocols work together and what they do. Plus, it supports input files in pcap and pcap-ng formats—these are made by tools like Wireshark or tcpdump, which you might already know!

Supports Various Network Protocols

This handy app supports a bunch of network protocols. Some of the big ones include Ethernet, SLL (Linux Cooked), ARP (Address Resolution Protocol), ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol), ICMPv6, IPv4, IPv6, TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), and UDP (User Datagram Protocol). Pretty neat right?

How to Install Netmate on Linux

The awesome thing about Netmate is that it’s written in C++ and uses the GTK+ GUI toolkit for its interface. If you want to install it on your GNU/Linux system, here’s how: First off, make sure you have GTK+ 3.x or later installed. Then grab the latest version from its official site or check it out on Softpas. Save the archive to your Home directory.

Next up, unpack that archive and open your Terminal app. In the terminal window, type ‘cd’ followed by the path where you unpacked the files (like cd /home/softpedia/netmate-0.2.0). Run ‘make’ to compile the program and then type ‘sudo make install’ to get it set up on your distribution.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

The best part? The Netmate application is cross-platform! That means it works on both GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows systems. It’s also compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit computers.
