Netdiscover
\nNetdiscover is a handy tool designed to help you find network addresses, especially useful for those wireless networks that don’t have DHCP servers. But don’t worry, it also works well on wired networks! It sends out ARP requests and listens for replies, making it pretty effective at what it does.
\n\nRequirements for Using Netdiscover
\nBefore you dive in, make sure you have these:
\n- \n
- libnet 1.1.x \n
- libpcap \n
What’s New in This Release?
\nThis version of Netdiscover comes packed with some cool updates:
\n- \n
- Changed the installation path to sbin. \n
- Added a man page—big thanks to Nicolas Weyland! \n
- You can now press “h” while running to get help. \n
- A new screen shows ARP requests more clearly. \n
- Fixed some issues with screen refresh and display problems. \n
- The interface now shows larger host lists, and you can scroll using j/k or the up/down arrow keys. \n
- The packet length count display has been fixed. \n
- Now includes sender data in the stations list from ARP requests. \n
- The sniffer's packet processing code has been improved. \n
- A lot of code cleaning and comments were added for clarity! \n
- If you don’t specify an interface, it will automatically select the first one available. \n
- Error handling is better now, including checks for interfaces and user IDs (UIDs). \n
- Header checks on configure.in were fixed—thanks to Charlie Brady for reporting that! \n
- Sleeps between scans are now smoother; no more delays between each ARP request—this is called hardcore mode (just like older versions). \n
- You can set how many requests to send with the -c switch. \ n\t
- The screen display has some tweaks for better visibility. \ n\t
- You can use decimal sleep times now! \ n\t
- Makes things compatible with gcc 2.95 too! \ n\t
- A customizable array was added for IPs scanned during fast mode. \ n\t
- A few changes around scanning loops mean scans might be slower by default but safer with longer sleeps to avoid packet loss. \ n\t
- User-friendly usage parameters have been introduced (thanks SuD!). \ n\t
- You can change the last octet of scanning hosts with option ' - n ' . \ n\t
- Additions for Solaris and OpenBSD support were made, should work on other Unix systems too! \ n\t
- The configure.in file now checks your system along with libnet.h and pcap.h . \ n\t
- A database was added for MAC vendor identification . \ n\t
- An additional thread was created just for screen refreshes , plus you can set refresh time as a parameter . l I >< /ul >< br />\t\n
