How Does It Work?

So, here’s the deal: every time Windows starts, Netbook Tracer tries to send an email with details about where your laptop is. You get to set up the email address where you want these updates sent. This way, if someone takes your device, you’ve got a shot at finding it!

Email Reports

The emails include some useful info like:

• External IP Address: This helps identify the ISP (Internet Service Provider) that owns the IP address—like Tiscali or Virgin.


• Current Culture: You’ll see something like 'English (United Kingdom)' in there.


• Time Zone: It tells you what time zone it’s in, like 'GMT Standard Time.'


• Computer Name: Sometimes thieves aren’t too smart and use their own name for their PC name!


• User Name: A list of all user accounts on the laptop.


• OS Version: This shows which version of Windows is running.


• Domain Name: If it's part of a domain, you'll know; otherwise, it probably just says WORKGROUP.


• Whois of IP Address: This gives more info about the ISP linked to that IP address.


• If there's a webcam available: You might even get an image!
