What is net-tools FOR LINUX?

Net-Tools

Net-Tools is a handy package that has a bunch of programs you’ll find super useful for managing networking on your Linux system. Think of it as the go-to toolkit for working with network settings.

What’s Inside Net-Tools?

This package includes essential tools that help you control the network subsystem of the Linux kernel. You’ll get access to commands like arp, hostname, ifconfig, netstat, rarp, and route. These commands let you check your network connections, set up your hostname, and manage IP addresses easily.

The Key Tools Explained

arp: This tool helps you view and manipulate the ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) table, which is crucial for mapping IP addresses to MAC addresses in your local network.

hostname: Need to find or change your system’s name? This command does just that. It’s simple but super important!

ifconfig: This one is all about configuring network interfaces. You can set up your IP address, netmask, and more with it.

netstat: Want to see all active connections and routing tables? Netstat gives you a snapshot of everything happening on your network.

rarp: Similar to arp, but this tool helps in reverse mapping from a known MAC address back to an IP address.

route: Use this command to view or change the routing table. It’s essential for controlling how data travels across networks.
