neoeedit is an open source, cross-platform, simple, smart, quick, and light graphical application implemented in Java and tailored specifically for programmers who are looking for a very basic text editor to write code for their Java applications. The software can also act as an image viewer, designed to replace the classic Notepad app on Windows systems.
Unfortunately, its graphical user interface (GUI), which is also written in the Java programming language, meaning that the software will look and act the same on all supported platforms, is very basic. It features no toolbar or menus, nor a right-click context menu.
All you can do in the application is to write code and save the files by left-clicking anywhere on the status bar, which includes information about the current line, the total number of words and how many undo operations have been created at the moment.
A quick look under the hood of neoeedit will show us that the application is written entirely in the Java programming language, which means that it’s a platform-independent application that supports all the operating systems where the Java runtime environment is available, including GNU/Linux, BSD, Solaris, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X.
For users’ convenience, it is available for download as a pre-built binary package in the JAR file format, which requires no configuration or installation. To use the application, simply download the JAR file, save it somewhere on your computer, and double-click it. It has been successfully tested on both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.
