What is Mosh FOR LINUX?

Mosh

Mosh is a totally free and open-source command-line tool. It’s like a remote terminal program that was built to be an alternative to SSH (Secure Shell). You can run it on different POSIX platforms like GNU/Linux, BSD, Solaris, and even Mac OS X. Plus, there's an app available for Android devices too!

What Makes Mosh Stand Out?

Mosh, which stands for mobile shell, is super responsive and tough. It keeps your connection going strong whether you're on Cellular or Wi-Fi. It also has smart local echo, which means you can see what you type right away! This makes it really handy for editing your commands as you go.

Easy to Use with Great Features

This program works straight from the command-line interface and is designed to easily replace SSH. You can use the CTRL+C shortcut to stop any processes running in the background. One cool feature is that it lets you change your IP address while you're using it without any fuss! Mosh handles long-distance connections well and does not listen on network ports for user authentication.

Installing Mosh on Your System

If you're ready to give Mosh a try, installing it on your GNU/Linux distribution is pretty simple. Just head over to its official website or check out Softpedia to download the latest version. Save that archive file somewhere easy to find on your computer.

Once you've got the file downloaded, unzip it with your favorite archive manager. Open up the Terminal app and navigate to where you unzipped Mosh (for example: cd /home/softpedia/mosh-1.2.4). Then run these commands:

  • ./configure && make

  • sudo make install

This will set everything up system-wide! After installation, just type mosh --help in the terminal to check out all the command options and learn how to use this awesome tool.
