model2icon is a handy little tool for Mac users who want to create icon files that work on different operating systems. If you've ever tried to make icons from a 3D model without the right software, you know it can take forever. But with model2icon, it’s super quick and easy!

Easy Navigation

The main window of model2icon is very user-friendly. You’ll find everything you need right where you expect it! Just hit the “Load” button in the top right corner to bring in a .3ds or .md3 file. Then, you can see your 3D model pop up right in the center of the window. You can use your mouse to move around and zoom in or out on your model.

Previewing Your Icons

On the right side of the screen, there’s a section where you can preview all the icons that will be created. They’re lined up by size: 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 128x128, and even 256x256! Plus, you can choose whether you want them as Mac OS X or Windows icons or even PNG files from the dropdown menu at the top.

Customize Your Icons

If you want to tweak your icons a bit more, check out the left side of the main window. The Model transformation sliders let you adjust how your object is positioned. There’s also a “Show Shadow” panel where you can play with things like outline direction, distance, opacity, blur, and color.

Final Touches

You’ll also see a Mesh area that shows off your object name and lets you change its color using a simple color picker. Once you're happy with how everything looks, just click on the “Save” button and let model2icon do its magic!
