Mkgmap is a super handy and totally free tool that helps you create map files for GPS devices. If you’ve ever tried making maps yourself, you know it can be tricky. Luckily, Mkgmap makes it easier!
What Can Mkgmap Do?
Besides just making map files, Mkgmap can handle some pretty cool stuff! You can play around with complicated style files and tweak all sorts of configuration options. But honestly, the two main things I use it for are creating the maps and adjusting those styles.
The Command-Line Challenge
Now, here’s the catch: Mkgmap runs only in the command line. That means you have to remember those command line switches. If your memory isn't great (like mine sometimes!), you'll find yourself digging into the help file a lot! And don’t even think about making a simple shortcut because every filename has to be added to the command line.

This page is basically a friendly front-end for Mkgmap. It’s just another way to use it! But heads up—you still need to download Mkgmap separately from this GUI program. So make sure you grab that first!
