Description

Minsky

Minsky is a cool tool that helps with financial analysis using math. I know, math might not have been your favorite subject back in school, but it's actually super useful for a lot of things! With Minsky, you can run simulations to see how different plans might play out.

First Impressions

When you first open Minsky, it might look a bit overwhelming. There are lots of buttons and menus, and honestly, there aren’t many explanations unless you hover over them. The colors aren't the most exciting either, but don't worry—you can tweak those a bit in the settings!

Getting to Know Minsky

If you take some time to explore Minsky, you'll discover its unique way of handling financial data. You'll definitely be working with various math equations, but they make it pretty straightforward. You won’t have to do much typing; instead, you get to interact with operators just like you would with objects in a drawing program.

How It Works

Each object on your canvas represents a function. These can be simple things like adding or subtracting, or more complex functions like sine (sin), cosine (cos), tangent (tan), and many others. Plus, adding numerical values is easy too! You can set up variables and constants just as simply.

Connecting Operators

You get the freedom to arrange these operators however you'd like! But remember: to make them work together, you'll need to connect them properly. Each object has input and output ports—kind of like plugs—that help in this process. Also, if you start a simulation, results can show up in a Godley table or even update live on a plotter!

The Bottom Line

Minsky really shows us that math has tons of branches and wants to help us use them for financial analysis. Sure, its design may not steal the spotlight right away, but the workspace lets you create expressions easily and use those operators in both fun and practical ways.
