So, you’ve got a shiny new MacBook and you’re loving that super cool trackpad, right? But wait! There’s a little hiccup: how do you open links in new tabs or close them without searching for the tiny close button? Or what about when you're panning in CAD software? Normally, you'd just give that middle mouse button a click, but guess what? No scroll wheel in sight!
Enter Middle, an app with a name that tells you exactly what it does. It makes your laptop's trackpad and the Magic Mouse way more functional. With one of four different actions, you can simulate that middle click as if you were using an old-school mouse.
If you're using the trackpad on your Mac, you can set it up to use various gestures to mimic a middle click. Options include:
Now, if you're rocking the Magic Mouse instead, don’t worry! You have similar choices for simulating that middle click:
If these options aren't quite your style, there’s another neat trick! You can make it so whenever you hold down the fn key and click the left mouse button, it acts like a middle click. It may take some time to get used to this method, but hey, it could work better for some folks!
If any of your gestures clash with specific apps, no problem! You can turn off Middle while using those apps. Just keep in mind that there isn’t a list of apps you’ve disabled; you'll need to check each one if you're not sure which ones are marked.
You might find other apps trying to help out with middle-clicking too—some even for free—but let me tell you: Middle offers way more features than most. Especially when it comes to customizing how things work for you!
