Micro Snitch, which used to be called NOYB (short for None Of Your Business), is a simple app for Mac OS X. It quietly keeps an eye on your webcam and microphone, letting you know when they're active.
The Micro Snitch app sits in your status bar. This means you can instantly see if your audio or video devices are being used. It sends out little notification messages so you’re always in the loop!
One cool feature of this app is that it changes the icon in your status bar based on what's happening. So even if you miss a notification, you’ll still know whether your camera or mic is on or off.
If you open up the main menu of Micro Snitch, you'll find a list of all detected devices. The inactive ones are separated from those currently in use, making it easy to keep track.
The best part? Micro Snitch uses very few resources! You can run it all the time without slowing down your Mac. Plus, it logs when your camera or microphone gets turned on or off, and you can check this log file anytime through the app's Preferences window.
If there’s ever a device that Micro Snitch thinks it can't monitor properly, it’ll give you a warning when you connect it to your Mac. This way, you're always aware of potential issues!
Just remember: while Micro Snitch does an excellent job monitoring activity, it doesn’t let you turn off the microphone or camera from within the app itself.
