Description
MetaNote
MetaNote is a handy little tool for anyone who needs to edit text. While Windows has its own basic text editing options, sometimes you want something a bit more advanced. That’s where MetaNote comes in! It’s lightweight and lets you work with multiple files at once, making it super convenient for managing your documents.
Easy to Use Without Installation
The coolest thing about MetaNote is that it doesn’t need to be installed to work. You can just pop it on a thumb drive along with your important documents and take it anywhere! Plus, it won’t slow down the computer since it doesn’t mess with the registry.
Simplistic Visual Design
When you open MetaNote, you'll see that most of the space is dedicated to the editing area. There’s also a slim toolbar that gives you quick access to common functions. If you're someone who likes to juggle several text files, you’ll appreciate the tab support that lets you keep everything organized. To load your documents, just use the browse dialog—it supports TXT and RTF formats for both opening and saving.
Lack of Advanced Features
However, don't expect too much from the visual design. It’s pretty basic; there are no word or character counters, line numbering for coding help, or even caret position indicators. Text appears in plain format only, so you'll have to use other tools for page alignment since there aren’t any built-in features for that.
Font Management Options
You can change font styles, colors, sizes, and other attributes using MetaNote's font management options. But keep in mind that these changes affect the whole document—you can’t highlight specific text like some other editors allow.
A Mixed Bag Overall
In summary, while MetaNote does offer some benefits like portability and simplicity, it's not quite ready to replace even the basic Windows text tools. The design might be straightforward but lacks many features you'd expect from a more robust text editor.
