Description

Mandala is a free and easy to use fractal generation software written in the Java programming language.

When Mandala first runs, there is a pause (long on some browsers) and then the picture appears whole.

· Variation: Circular does the rotation calculations as I describe above. Minsky does the calculation Minsky describes in HAKMEM linked to above. Minsky was really intending very small angles, but I thought it would be interesting to try his method in this program. My favorite denominator with the Minsky variation is 10.
· Wobble: This varies the skew a small amount times cos( x_or_y * 2 * pi / 512 ). This disturbs, or smears, or blurs the pattern. Some fractions are more sensitive to wobble than others, and the effect is larger with larger window sizes.
· Wrap: This wraps the x and y values into a fixed range after each skew. Black velvet paintings of polygon planets being visited by crystal aliens. Fractions closer to 1/2 are more sensitive to this.
· Skew: Maybe this should be called "offset" or "epicycle." After each rotation step, the point is pushed a constant amount to the right. Since the effect of this is rotated by each subsequent rotation, the effect of all the pushes is to go around.
