Description

LocalSend

LocalSend is a lifesaver for anyone using a Mac alongside other devices that aren't Apple. If you've ever tried moving files between your Mac and, say, an Android phone or Windows PC without messing with cloud services, you know what I mean! LocalSend works like AirDrop but is way more flexible.

Transfer Files Easily

This handy software lets you transfer files, media, folders, and even text between all major platforms—macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android. And guess what? It’s completely free and open-source! You can send stuff over HTTPS without worrying about sending data outside your local network.

How It Works

When you install LocalSend on any device, it gets a random alias. This makes it super easy to spot on your local network. You can change this alias whenever you want! When you're ready to send something, you'll see all nearby devices along with their platform type and the last digits of their local IP addresses.

Sending Files

Select the files or folders you want to share—or just shoot over a quick text message. After that, pick the device you want to send it to. The receiving device will get a notification asking if they want to accept the transfer. If Quick Save is turned on, it’ll automatically accept the transfer!

Multiple Recipients & Links

You’re not limited to one-on-one transfers either! You can set up multiple recipients at once or even share a link for those who don’t have LocalSend installed yet. Just keep in mind that while this opens in a browser for downloading files from a web server, it won’t offer encryption.

Encryption Options

If you're feeling adventurous and want to disable encryption (not recommended), you can switch to HTTP instead of HTTPS. Plus, there's Quick Save for faster transfers when needed! And don't worry; if you minimize the app to your menu bar when you're done using it, you'll still be able to manage everything by bringing up the main window.

A Must-Have Tool

In summary, LocalSend is fantastic for anyone juggling different devices—especially if you're a Mac user with an Android phone or Windows/Linux desktop around. It’s user-friendly and doesn’t hog resources while giving you plenty of features to customize how your transfers work. Seriously—it’s essential when AirDrop isn’t an option!
