LoadScout is a cool, free app designed to help you grab technical info about media content from HTTP or FTP sources without needing to download anything first. It even has a downloader built in, plus a way to extract files from remote archives.
Once you get it set up—which is super quick—you'll see a friendly interface with a big window divided into several sections. Here, you can paste in a URL for media analysis by entering the link, choosing the protocol type (FTP or HTTP), and adding a username and password if needed.
If you'd rather not share your info, you can log in anonymously! LoadScout will automatically figure out the host address, port number, and remote directory or file for you. And don’t worry; if you need to change anything, you can easily edit those details.
The app scans your target for media sources and keeps track of log details. It shows the name, size, file type, and date of last modification for each item it finds. Plus, if you're curious about more specifics like height, width, max colors supported, resolution, and file version—it's all there!
You can download any selected media items right to your computer! Once you're connected via FTP to another machine, you can switch between local and remote views. Oh! And don't forget—you can also extract files from remote archives or parts of remote media files.
LoadScout makes it easy to create and manage a favorites list. You can use the archive name in the extract path too! Want to get rid of files permanently? No problem! Just delete them instead of sending them to the Recycle Bin. Plus, it saves your connection history between sessions.
The application didn't slow down our workstation during tests. However, we did notice some hiccups where it struggled to identify certain media files—this might be because it hasn't been updated in a while and could have compatibility issues with newer Windows versions or network protocols. But hey! You can try LoadScout out for yourself since it's free!
