LinkLiar is a handy app that helps keep your MacBook safer when you connect to public networks. Every device, whether it’s an Apple or non-Apple, has a unique identifier called a MAC address. This address can be tracked whenever you hop onto a Wi-Fi network. Unlike your iPhone, which automatically hides this information, your MacBook doesn’t do that by default.

How LinkLiar Works

This open-source app makes it easier for you to protect your privacy. When you connect to a new network, LinkLiar broadcasts a random MAC address instead of your real one. You can easily control everything from the menu bar at the top of your screen.

User-Friendly Interface

The app is super simple to use. Once it's up and running, you'll see it in your menu bar showing the original MAC addresses for both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections. You have options: randomize them, manually set a new one, or stick with the original address.

Stay Informed with Indicators

Your menu bar icon will let you know if any of the unique MAC addresses are currently being used. It even shows which device is being broadcasted at any moment! Plus, you can set up default actions for when you connect to new networks.

Protect Your Privacy on Public Wi-Fi

When you're on unknown networks like public Wi-Fi hotspots, your real MAC address can be seen by the network owner and used to track where you've been. But with LinkLiar, only a random MAC address gets shared—just like what happens on iOS devices!

Ethernet Spoofing

While LinkLiar can also spoof your Ethernet adapter’s identifier, it's not as common since most folks don’t plug into unknown Ethernet connections. It would be nice if the app didn’t show alerts about leaks when only your Wi-Fi is protected.
