What is KFC FOR MAC?

KFC (Kill Flash Cookies)

KFC (Kill Flash Cookies) is a free and super easy app for Mac OS X that helps you wipe out all those pesky Flash cookies on your computer.

What Are Flash Cookies?

So, here’s the deal: Adobe Flash Player uses special cookies called Local Shared Objects, or LSO's for short. These little guys can hold up to 100 KB of info forever, unless you do something about it. And get this—when you clear your browser history on Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X, those LSO’s stick around in Adobe's local storage.

Why You Should Care

All the data in those cookies doesn’t just disappear. They hang out indefinitely until either the website that created them removes them or you go through a really annoying process to get rid of them yourself. Some of that stored info could be personal stuff like usernames and passwords. With all the security issues popping up in Flash, it makes total sense to ditch those cookies so no sketchy sites can snoop on your details.

KFC Features

KFC offers two versions: there’s a command line application and an easy-to-use GUI version. Plus, it works natively on Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows!

Finding Those Cookies

The KFC tool will search for these unwanted Flash cookies right here: ~Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player.

IMPORTANT:

The first time you run KFC, make sure to let it go until there are zero errors left. Those Flash cookies are tough! You might need to run it three or four times to clean them all out completely. If you're curious about what it's doing during the process, just use the -v option. And don’t worry if it takes a bit longer on the first run—it’s worth it!
