Keystats is a simple keylogger app for macOS that helps you track your typing activity and gives you some neat stats about it. It records every keystroke in an SQLite3 database, but when you open the app, you’ll only see the cool statistical info.
The first time you fire up the application, Keystats will let you know it needs to be added to your list of assistive devices. This is so it can record your keystrokes properly. To do this, just head over to the Security & Privacy section in your System Preferences.
Once you're in there, click on the Privacy tab and look for Keystats in the Accessibility list. You’ll need to enter your admin password to make any changes. No worries, it’s pretty straightforward!
After you've done that, just restart the Keystats app, and everything should be good to go! Keep in mind that Keystats only records when it's running, so adding it to your login items might be a smart move.
The main window of Keystats shows you the date and time of your first recorded keystroke. You’ll also get a total count of keystrokes as well as daily, weekly, or monthly stats. Pretty handy!
Once Keystats has gathered enough data, it creates a graph showing how many keystrokes you've made each day for the last 29 days. It even displays an average number of strokes per week!
This app tracks not just when you type but also logs details like key type and code along with its ASCII representation and which app was active at that moment.
You can find all this data stored safely in /Library/Application Support/Keystats/keystrokes
. Don't worry—Keystats isn’t malicious; it's designed for tracking your typing habits safely.
The main window keeps things simple by showing only statistical information and those handy auto-generated graphs. If you're curious about how much you've been typing lately or want detailed insights into your habits, check out Keystats here!
