Description
Keep My IP
Keep My IP is designed to help you stop your Internet Service Provider (ISP) from changing your IP address all the time.
Why Your IP Address Matters
Your IP address works like your phone number for your Internet connection. Just like how your number can change, so can your IP. Most people don’t mind this, especially if they just want to browse the web. But if you’re running a server, it’s crucial that others can connect to you without interruptions.
How It Works
You might think about keeping your DSL modem connected to your ISP as a solution. But there’s more to it! Usually, people try sending pings to a website regularly, which works but also uses up resources on that site.
Keep My IP takes a smarter route. Instead of pinging random sites, it sends a random DNS query to your ISP at intervals that can range from every second to 10 minutes—averaging about 5 minutes. This keeps your ISP informed that you're online without bothering other websites.
No Wasted Resources!
This method is super quick and doesn’t waste any memory or CPU on your computer. Built in assembly language, Keep My IP is lightweight and runs very fast! In between those queries, it goes into sleep mode so it won't interfere with what you're doing.
Sneaky Background Operation
The best part? It operates silently in the background without annoying pop-up windows! If you ever need more frequent queries—say every few minutes—you can run multiple copies of Keep My IP. Two copies will ping twice as often; three will ping three times as often!
Startup and Longevity
Normally, Keep My IP starts automatically when Windows boots up and continues until you shut down. If you're running an Internet server, it's wise not to shut down too often (except for quick breaks). Keeping everything up means you'll keep that precious static IP for longer!
