JSON is an open standard data interchange format used primarily for browser-server communication that employs a human-readable syntax and is completely language-independent, but is similar in many ways to various programming languages. Moreover, Jason is a lightweight OS X app that can open JSON files and interpret the code in order to display it in an even more intuitive form, while also allowing you to perform modifications and check for errors. Jason allows you to import any JSON file from local storage and displays the contained data in two modes. Firstly, you can view the code in its original form, and even modify it as you would when using a regular text editor. However, the app also offers an Outline view, which displays all entries in a hierarchical structure that is much easier to analyze. The application is capable of loading JSON data directly from a provided URL. While Jason works well as a simple viewer, it can be used as a fully-fledged editor, although the lack of syntax highlighting makes it less suitable for writing code. However, the app comes with a very useful validator, which checks your code for errors and highlights the relevant line when an inconsistency is found, while also letting you know how you can fix the issue. When viewing the file in Outline mode, altering the code and inserting new entries is a lot easier, as the syntax is added automatically and the process is much more intuitive. Overall, Jason is a straightforward OS X app with a minimalistic design that can help you view, edit, and analyze JSON files, while also making it easy to check your code for errors and fix invalid entries.
