Description
Immediate Access
Immediate Access is here to help keep your device's VPN connection always on. It's designed for a specific need: making sure you stay connected, no matter what.
What Makes Immediate Access Unique?
This software is an open-source project that serves as a great alternative to Microsoft's Direct Access. But here's the cool part: instead of connecting like Direct Access does using IPHTTPS or Teredo, Immediate Access starts with a VPN connection you choose. Just make sure it's a Windows-supported method, like IPSec, SSTP, L2TP, PPTP, or IKEv2.
Using Always On VPN with Immediate Access
The Always On VPN technology can be set up on your machine in different ways, even if you're using Immediate Access. To get this going, you'll need to tweak some system settings through Group Policy (GPO). Don't worry; you can still use Immediate Access alongside your system settings!
If you're curious about how Always On VPN works, check out the Microsoft documentation here.
How Does It Work?
The main job of Immediate Access is to run regular checks (think of it as probe connections) to see if your device is on the corporate network. It monitors and collects data about network activity at set intervals.
Actions Based on Network Status
If the probe check gives a certain result, the tool takes action! According to the developers, if you're connected to a corporate network, Immediate Access, along with your VPN connection, will automatically disconnect.
Also, whenever there's a network change or after a Health Check Interval passes by, it will try checking again for that probe connection. If it can't reach the probe? The program will disconnect any active VPN profiles.
