imapsync is a handy tool for moving your emails from one mailbox to another. It makes those incremental recursive IMAP transfers super easy!
So, why would you want to use imapsync? Well, it's perfect for mailbox migration. It cuts down the data that needs to be transferred by only copying messages that aren't already on both servers. This means less waiting around for your emails to move!
One of the coolest features is that it keeps your read, unread, and even deleted flags intact during the transfer. Plus, if you need to take a break during the process, you can stop and then just pick up right where you left off. And if you're all set with the transfer and want to clean things up, you can choose to delete the original messages once they've moved successfully.
imapsync works great on any Unix operating system! So no worries there.
You'll find a compressed tarball named imapsync-x.xx.tgz
, where x.xx
is the version number. Just untar that tarball wherever you want using this command:
tar xzvf imapsync-x.xx.tgz
After that, jump into the directory called imapsync-x.xx
, and make sure to check out the INSTALL file for more details.
If you're ready to dive in, you can start running some commands like:
imapsync [options]
If you need help or want more info on how to use it, just type:
imapsync --help
This will give you tons of options like specifying servers and ports:
[--host1 server1] [--port1 < num >] [--user1 < string >] ...
