Description

By investing a bit of time in managing which apps launch on system startup, you can save yourself a lot more time later down the line by streamlining your workflow.

Or, you can make sure that no apps start at system launch, thus ensuring that your computer starts as fast as possible. Either way, having a decent app to manage said startup apps is good to have.

Ignition is one such tool. Its job is to help you edit auto-start entries regardless of them being startup apps, startup entries for saved scripts, or even startup entries for commands.

At heart Ignition is a very simple open-source and free app. It should work without problems on most Freedesktop-compliant Linux distros, however, it's worth noting that it's mostly designed for GNOME desktop environments. And yes, the project follows the GNOME Code of Conduct, in case you're wondering.

The way the app works is very straightforward. Once you get past the Welcome screen, the app presents all active startup applications and potential scrips. You can enable or disable apps and scripts, as well as add new ones (apps or commands and scripts) using the "+NEW" button in the top right corner.

That's really about it. I will be honest, I would have loved to see a bit more customization options available, but the truth of the matter is that the app works just fine in its current form.

While it's definitely not the most feature-packed app of this sort, I like the fact that it works and looks good on GNOME, and I also like the fact that it makes it a lot simpler to run scripts and commands (this without having to use the Terminal).
