HotKey is a super handy tool designed to make your life easier by letting you launch apps or open folders using custom hotkeys. It’s all about keeping things simple and efficient!
The HotKey app also includes a neat status bar menu. This means if you forget your hotkeys, you can still access your apps without any hassle.
When you first open HotKey, its little menu pops up right in the status bar. You’ll notice two preset hotkeys: one for Terminal and another for checking out what’s currently on your clipboard.
Just so you know, HotKey only shows what’s in your clipboard at the moment. It displays this info in a panel that sits on top of your desktop. But, there’s no option to pick out specific pieces of text or anything like that.
If you want to add more apps or folders, just hop into the Preferences window! After adding an item, don’t forget to set a hotkey for it. If you skip this step, you'll have to use the status bar menu each time.
The best part? Using this application is pretty straightforward! Just set up the hotkeys you want and you're all set. Keep in mind that there aren’t many customization options available—you can’t change how the menu looks or hide it from view.
You do have some control over how it behaves though! You can choose to hide the Dock icon if it annoys you and decide whether or not to start it up when you log in. That way, all your hotkeys will be ready to go right away!
If ever forget a hotkey, the status bar menu has got your back! But wouldn’t it be nice if we could hide that menu completely? It would give users more choice about whether they need it or not.
