HL7Sender is a handy little tool designed to send HL7 messages over the network. It's pretty straightforward and works with just one form, making it easy to use. With this application, you can read, write, validate, and send HL7 messages without any hassle.
The top part of the form shows your message in a rich text box where you can edit it as needed. Just a heads up: every HL7 segment starts on a new line! A good tip for editing is to cut and paste segments from other messages. You can even open multiple instances of the program to make this easier. Another trick is to fill in text between two | signs (that’s your field separator) for quicker edits.
If you scroll down a bit, you'll find some text fields where you can set up the MLP network protocol elements. This is where you enter TCP/IP details like the destination host name or IP address, port number, and timeouts. You can also choose whether or not to enable ACKs here.
HL7Sender uses Igor Chernizer’s HL7ImEx parser for processing messages. There are two message structure configuration files (segDefs and msgRules) that come with the installation. You can edit these files manually if you need to adjust things. Plus, if you want different versions of HL7 messages, you can duplicate these files with different suffixes! Just remember that you’ll need to set the flavor’s suffix in the ‘Message configuration version’ text box—don’t forget that dot ‘.’!
The best part? This software is free for personal use! If you're interested in trying it out or need more info, check out this link for more details: Download HL7Sender.
