Description

Granite Data Services

Granite Data Services (GDS) is an open-source, event-driven platform that’s free and works on any system. Think of it as a solid alternative to Adobe LiveCycle (Flex 2) Data Services for your J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) app servers.

Key Features of Granite Data Services

So, what’s cool about GDS? It comes with Tide, a client development framework that makes life easier. You also get some powerful code generation tools and great support for cross-client Java technologies. The easy configuration means you can integrate it smoothly with different Java EE frameworks. Plus, there’s Gravity, which is a real-time module that packs a punch!

Full Support and Compatibility

This project is designed to offer full AMF3 (Action Message Format) support and includes a handy EJB3 Entity Bean to ActionScript 3 classes code generator utility. It works seamlessly with all major operating systems and supports many popular programming languages.

Real-Time Data Push Features

A standout feature is the Comet-like data push implementation where AMF3 requests are sent over HTTP. This means thousands of companies can use it for their critical apps while tapping into powerful cross-client technologies like Oracle JavaFX, Google Android, and Apache Flex.

Integration with Major Frameworks

You can easily integrate GDS with all the big names in Java EE frameworks, application servers, and JPA engines. This includes Apache Tomcat, JBoss, Spring, GlassFish, WebSphere, Hibernate, and more!

A Note on Replacement

Now here’s something important: Granite Data Services isn’t just a drop-in replacement. You can’t just take your Flex 2 Data Services app and throw it onto a Granite server without making some changes first.

Supported Platforms

The whole thing is written in Java! That means it runs on any operating system that has the JRE (Java Runtime Environment), including GNU/Linux distributions as well as Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Plus, it's been tested successfully with both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) architectures.
