Description

goot is a platform independent translation utility that features a plugin model and global hotkey support. Some plugins (eg. Google Translate) are already included but anyone with Java programming knowledge can write additional plugins.

Once upon a time there was the free Babylon translator which was great! It did support a variety of languages, had a nice interface and featured middle-click and translate functionality by using OCR (Optical Character Recognition). So it worked on everything, plain text, flash animations, images, ... New features were added over time and suddenly it became payware. Yikes!

This is where goot jumps in!

goot features a plugin model and comes with a Google Translate plugin for translating single words and whole sentences. It supports all the language combinations Google supports and can also autodetect which language the source text was written in.

goot doesn't offer OCR support like Babylon, but it supports configurable global hotkeys on Windows and Linux.

goot is available in different packages. There are Windows and Linux versions, some include additional LAFs (Java Look And Feels), some don't. Choose your favorite package below.
