GlusterFS is a clustered file-system capable of scaling to several peta-bytes. It aggregates various storage bricks over Infiniband RDMA or TCP/IP interconnect into one large parallel network file system.
Also, GlusterFS is based on a stackable user space design without compromising performance.
Storage bricks can be made of any commodity hardware such as x86-64 server with SATA-II RAID and Infiniband or GigE interconnect.
GlusterFS server can run on any POSIX compliant OS. GlusterFS client requires FUSE support in your kernel.
As of now Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, and OpenSolaris (work in progress) kernels are known to support.
NOTE: Detailed instructions on how to install GlusterFX on Mac OS X can be found HERE.
