Description

GitG

GitG is a fantastic app designed for the GNOME desktop environment. It makes it super easy for you to view and browse Git software repositories. This open-source tool is small, fast, and is actually a clone of the popular GitX software project!

Easy Access to Git History

This application was built to help users check out Git actions and history, especially for projects hosted on the well-known GitHub site. So, whether you're working on your own project or contributing to someone else's, GitG lets you easily view and edit source files.

Features That Simplify Your Workflow

With GitG, you can:

  • Browse revision history with ease.

  • Handle large repositories without breaking a sweat.

  • Commit changes quickly.

  • Stage or unstage individual hunks effortlessly.

  • Revert changes if needed.

  • Display colorized diffs of changes in your Git revisions.

  • Navigate through the tree for any specific Git revision.

Easily Export Parts of Your Project

This app allows you to export parts of the tree from any given Git revision. You can even supply any refspec that commands like 'git log' can read to build up your revision history! Plus, switching between different branches in the history view is a breeze!

User-Friendly GUI Design

The graphical user interface (GUI) of GitG is crafted using the popular GTK+ toolkit. To make sure everything runs smoothly, it requires the libgit2 and libgit2-glib libraries. If you're running on any Debian or Red Hat-based Linux distribution, you're good to go!

Install Anywhere You Want

If you're not using GNOME specifically, no worries! You can still install GitG on other open-source graphical desktop environments as long as you've got all its dependencies in place. You have options too: install it via the source archive or grab it directly from your Linux distribution's software repositories. Oh, and it works on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms!
