What is Gerbv FOR MAC?

Gerbv

Gerbv is a cool open-source tool that lets you view Gerber files, which are used in making printed circuit boards (PCBs). This software only works with the RS-274X format. One of the neat things about Gerbv is that you can load multiple files at once and even take measurements right on the displayed image!

Explore More Than Just Gerber Files

Not only can you view Gerbers, but Gerbv also allows you to see Excellon drill files and pick-place files. So, whether you're working on a PCB design or checking out drilling patterns, this software has got you covered!

The Importance of Gerber Files

So, what exactly are Gerber files? They're typically generated by PCB CAD tools like those from the gEDA Project. Once created, these files are sent off to PCB manufacturers who use them to actually produce the circuit boards.

Understanding the Standards

There are two main standards for Gerber files: RS-274X and RS-274D. The older RS-274D format doesn’t include aperture information, which is essential for proper manufacturing. But with the newer RS-274X standard, all that important info is embedded directly in the file!

Get Started Without Hassle

NOTE: If you're not into building software from scratch, there’s an easier way! You can install fink, and then just run this command in your Terminal:

fink install gerbv
