Getting Started with GCViewer

Once you download it, you can jump right in and start using it, as long as you have Java installed on your computer. No fuss!

No Installation Needed

The best part? You don’t need to install GCViewer! You can just keep it on a USB stick or any other memory device and take it with you wherever you go. How convenient is that?

No Traces Left Behind

Since there’s no installation process, GCViewer won’t create any extra registry entries on your system. This means when you're done with it, you can simply delete the files without worrying about leftover traces.

User-Friendly Interface

Even though it works in command line mode, GCViewer has a simple and intuitive graphical user interface. You can easily load the files you want to work with, including GC, TXT, and LOG files from Sun/Oracle, HP, BEA Java, or IBM virtual machines.

Diving Into the Data

The information from your file shows up in a graph format. It’s organized into three tabs: 'Summary', 'Memory', and 'Pause'. This setup helps you get a clear view of what’s going on.

Understanding the Summary Tab

The 'Summary' tab gives you key details like 'Footprint', 'Freed Memory', and total time displayed in hours, minutes, and seconds. You’ll also find stats on 'Acc Pauses', '% Throughput', number of full GC pauses, and full GC performance in M/s.

Exploring Memory Insights

If you're curious about memory metrics, check out the 'Memory' tab! You’ll see stats like ‘Avg After Full GC’, ‘Avg Freed GC’, and ‘Slope Full GC’. Plus, from the 'View' menu, you can pick which elements to display by checking their boxes.
