FX Chem is an unsophisticated macOS application designed to eliminate the need to use special formatting tools when writing chemical equations.

Moreover, the FX Chem app allows you to type the expression using only your keyboard, recognizes all the special elements, and automatically generates the correct representation.

Due to its well structured user interface, finding your way around the FX Chem application is quite easy. In the app’s top panel you can type the chemical equation, while on the bottom you can see the formatted version.

FX Chem comes with a simple toolbar placed in the top area of its main window that provides access to most functions. Note that FX Chem provides basic text editing capabilities, such as making the text bold or italic, changing the font size, style or alignment, or crossing out certain sections.

FX Chem formats the equations automatically, in real time, without requiring any user interaction. However, via the app’s Option panel, you have the option to adjust the appearance and style of certain elements.

FX Chem enables you to adjust the text size and level of the arrows, super, subscript, or phase, the style of the equilibrium arrows, the default arrow width, or the phase style (italic or not).

FX Chem allows you to select the third party app in which you plan to use the formatted equation (Word, Pages, PowerPoint, KeyNote, LibreOffice/OpenOffice, MathML, or LaTeX). Nonetheless, FX Chem can also export projects to SVG, BMP, JPG, PNG, or TIF files.

FX Chem is a great tool to have around if you need to type chemical expressions, while not having to deal with the equation formatting. Since FX Chem comes with a minimalistic workflow, using the utility proves to be extremely easy.
