What is fsriev?
fsriev
fsriev is a handy little tool for keeping tabs on files and folders. Even if you don't have a ton of apps on your system, there are still lots of files working behind the scenes, each doing its own thing. But trying to keep an eye on what gets written, deleted, or changed can feel like a lot!
Getting Started with fsriev
So, how do you start using this cool command line utility? First off, you'll need to add the directory or file you want to monitor into the appsettings.json file under the Watchers array. It’s pretty straightforward! You just need to include some basic info like the name, folder path, file filter, notify filters, exclusions, and working directory.
Customizing Your Watchers
Besides the main Watchers array, there are three properties you can tweak outside of it: CommandOutputMode, CommandOutputLevel, and LogsDirectory. Once these settings are in place, fsriev will automatically keep an eye on those files or directories and run whatever commands you've set up.
Troubleshooting Shutdown Issues
A heads-up though: it seems like there are some shutdown hiccups right now. If you try to close it by hitting that X button, it won't work as expected since it doesn't actually kill the process. The developer suggests pressing Ctrl + C a few times to stop all commands before exiting. It might feel like nothing's happening at first! Another option is to simply close it from Task Manager.
A Bit About Its Setup
This app runs on ASP.NET Core, which means you can customize it in various ways. You don’t have to use command arguments if you don’t want to; but hey, if that helps make things easier for you—go for it!
Your File Monitoring Solution
If you're looking for a way to keep a sharp eye on specific files or folders so that you're ready to take action when needed—whether it's deleting something or stopping a task—then why not give fsriev a shot!
