Description

Free Text

Free Text is a handy little tool that gives you some nice options for text editing. If you’re not a fan of the usual Windows tools like Notepad, don’t worry! This software offers similar features to help with your text editing needs.

Lightweight and Portable

This application is super lightweight, which means it’s quick to download and use right away—no installation needed! You can even carry it on a USB flash drive along with your documents. That way, no matter what computer you’re using, you’ll always have your text editor handy. Plus, it won’t mess with your computer’s settings since it doesn’t change any registry entries.

Easy to Start Writing

You can jump right into writing as soon as you open Free Text. Most of the screen is dedicated to the editing area, making it easy to focus on your work. If you want to open an existing file, just remember it needs to be in RTF format—that's the only type supported here. And if you're curious about exporting files? Yep, it's RTF only too!

Edit Your Way

The editing features are pretty straightforward and give you some cool customization options. You can change colors from a big palette or pick different font styles, sizes, and attributes—all found in the upper toolbar. Basic tools like copy, cut, paste, undo, redo, and select are all there for you too.

What’s Missing?

However, it's worth noting that Free Text does have some downsides. The editing area doesn't come with helpful tips or info fields which can make things tricky sometimes. There’s no page delimitation either. One of the biggest misses is that there’s no word or character counter—so if that's something you rely on while writing, you'll need another solution.

A Quick Recap

In short, Free Text is a lightweight alternative to the default text editors that come with Windows. While it has some cool features for basic editing tasks, it's missing some practical tools that could make your life easier—like notifiers and counters.
