FontView is a cool little app that helps you see all the fonts installed on your computer. You know how Windows comes with its own set of fonts? Well, there’s a whole lot more to it than just the default ones! Fonts are stored in a special folder, and having more options means less chance of running into unreadable text.
When you launch FontView, the main window pops up and starts showing off all your installed fonts right away. It’s pretty neat! Just keep in mind that if you move things around on your screen, it might make the app flicker a bit while it updates the font list. This flickering can be kind of annoying, especially if you have tons of fonts.
You’ll definitely want to use the side scroll bar to check out all your fonts. But heads up—scrolling also makes the app update, so you’ll need to pause every now and then. By default, the fonts are displayed in multiple columns, and there’s even a slider for how dense you want them to appear. Just remember: cranking up that density too high can make everything hard to read.
If you're looking to change font sizes, there’s another slider for that! But here’s the catch—the app doesn’t automatically adjust how many columns show based on your size changes. You’ll have to experiment with both sliders to find what looks best. If something seems off or not updating properly, don't sweat it; there’s an update button just for refreshing the list!
Now, here's where FontView falls short: you can't actually interact with any of these fonts or use them directly within the app. Plus, there's no scratchpad feature for testing them out either! Also, keep in mind that not all characters will display correctly since the app doesn’t support every type of character out there. And good luck counting how many fonts you have—there's no total count feature!
In conclusion, having lots of fonts on your computer is great if you're into designing creative projects regularly. While it's super easy to view installed fonts through common text editors—which might be better—FontView is still a handy tool when you want a quick glance at your options!
