Folder Tidy

Folder Tidy is a super useful tool for macOS that helps you clean up those messy folders we all have, like your Desktop or Downloads folder. Instead of spending hours sorting files by hand, this app does it for you by creating neat subfolders based on categories.

How Does Folder Tidy Work?

When you open the Folder Tidy app, it’s easy to get started. You simply pick the source folder (where your messy files are) and the target folder (where you want the organized files to go). Once you've got those selected, just hit the "Tidy" button and watch as it sorts everything out! The end result is a nicely organized output folder.

Default Categories

The cool thing about Folder Tidy is that it automatically sorts your files into several standard categories. You’ll find folders for Source Code, Applications, Pictures, Movies, Music, PDFs, Presentations, Spreadsheets, Word Processing documents, Archives, Disk Images, Web Locations, Text Clippings, Documents, Folders and Aliases. Pretty handy!

Add Your Own Categories

If those default categories don’t quite cut it for you, no worries! You can create your own rules and add custom categories. Plus, if there are certain files or folders you want to ignore during sorting—just toss them into the Ignore tab in Preferences.

Other Cool Features

Folder Tidy has some neat features too! For example, it can hide other windows while it's working its magic. It can also tidy up files within subfolders or even clear out empty folders—all with just a few clicks.

Review Your Work

Once everything’s sorted out and you're back in the source folder checking things out—if you're not happy with how it looks? No problem! Just click one button to undo everything and try again!
