macOS offers a limited image viewing experience, especially if you want to cycle through all the files in a folder without first importing them into Photos.

FlowVision can serve as both a simple image viewer and an album manager. You can use it to open individual images and navigate through a folder, but it also includes a file manager that lets you switch between folders and organize images.

If all you want is something that opens images when you double-click them, just set FlowVision as your default app for images. It has a minimalistic interface, with the option to even hide the toolbar, and you can cycle through all images in the folder.

There are a few shortcuts and gestures you can use for zooming, panning, and adjusting window size, and they’re quite intuitive, but it would be great if they were customizable. Also, I’d like to see the window size adjusted automatically based on the image’s dimensions.

FlowVision comes with a classic file manager, which can be handy for finding and organizing images. You have a sidebar with the file tree on the left, and image thumbnails on the right. You can copy, move, and delete images, just like in Finder, and images and folders can be opened in multiple tabs.

Some interesting shortcuts and gestures are available, especially if you have a MacBook. You can use these to navigate between other directories that contain images, and they’re actually useful once you get the hang of them. Folders can also be marked as favorites to return to them easily.

FlowVision does almost everything right, and it’s a great alternative to the default options you have on macOS. It’s fast, not too complicated, and the interface blends in well with the OS aesthetic. One thing I’d still like to see is the option to customize the image viewing controls.
