FITS Preview

FITS Preview is a handy tool designed for folks working with FITS image files, especially in astrophotography. This format is all about handling scientific data, and FITS Preview lets you see what’s inside those FITS files. You can check out the image content, dive into the metadata, or even look at the image histogram.

Simple User Interface

The user interface of FITS Preview is pretty straightforward. It opens up a clean window where you can preview your FITS images. One cool feature is that it opens a new window for each file, so you can peek at multiple images at once without getting lost!

User-Friendly Controls

You’ll find most of the image controls right in the top toolbar. At the bottom of the window, you can see details like image resolution and pointer position. It's all laid out nicely so you can focus on what matters—your images!

Viewing Metadata & Histograms

Want to check out the metadata or histogram? No problem! While you can’t edit or export this info directly from FITS Preview, it does let you export your images into JPEG format. So if you need to share your work, that’s an option.

Edit and Adjust Your Images

Inside the app, zooming in and out on your images is super easy. You can flip or rotate pictures too! Plus, there's an option to select a Bayer Mask offset if that's something you need. The app even has automatic stretch settings but allows for manual adjustments on black and white points as well.

Analyzing Telescope Images

This means you can really dig into specific areas captured by your telescope camera. Make adjustments to bring certain details to light before exporting them in a more standard file format.
