Description
When you copy image content to the clipboard, it’s not actually stored as a file, and so can’t be pasted as such directly. You have to paste it into an image editor, and then create a file, or save it as a file directly from the source.
Fasa, short for Forget About Save-As, allows you to skip these steps and makes it simpler to paste clipboard image content as a regular file in Finder. It works with any image added to the clipboard, including browser content and screenshots.
Normally, when using a browser, you have to right-click an image, click Save As, and create a file. If you just copy the image, you can’t create an image file directly.
The way Fasa works is by continuously monitoring the clipboard; if it detects any image stored in there, it allows you to use the regular paste command to create an image file in the selected location. It’s just like pasting any other file but works for image content as well.
Since the app needs to create a file, you can set up your preferred image format and naming scheme. You can choose between PNG and JPEG, but sadly without any JPEG quality control. If you don’t want certain apps to be monitored, for various reasons, you can exclude them.
All clipboard images are automatically saved to a temporary location, and then copied to wherever you paste them. You can open the temporary folder and clean it at any time, but there’s no feature for cleaning it automatically.
If you need to save a lot of images sent to the clipboard, Fasa can definitely speed things up. I noticed that it’s particularly helpful for saving WebP images, which are notoriously difficult to save in a usable format. Its usefulness will be highly dependent on your specific workflow, but it’s certainly a nice feature to have at hand.
