Description

ExMplayer is an open source and free graphical application that has been designed to act as a GUI (Graphical User Interface) front-end for the powerful and popular MPlayer command-line video player software, allowing users to play any video or audio format available.

ExMplayer is based on MPlayer SVN, it includes over 400 video codecs and over 200 audio codecs. Among other features, we can mention seekview, flow browser, media cutter, media mixer, as well as audio extractor.

As expected from an application that’s bundled with so many audio and video codecs, ExMplayer supports a wide range of video and audio file formats, including MKV, AVI, XviD, DivX, MP3, OGG, MP4, WAV, PCM, AC3, DTS, as well as VOB (DVD-Video), or MPG (Video-CD).

The application supports network streaming and a wide range of subtitles (the ASS library is used to decode subtitle streams). The most important feature is that it can play any media format without reliying on external codecs.

The software supports Winamp's DSP (Digital Signal Processing) plugin, 8 audio effect filters and 17 video effect filters. While the application is written entirely in the C++ programming language, it’s graphical user intertface is designed in Qt.

ExMplayer is a cross-platform software that runs on GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It has been successfully tested with computers supporting either of the 32 or 64-bit CPU architectures.

ExMplayer can be easily installed on any GNU/Linux operating system by running the ‘make’ command in the source directory, after downloading and extracting the latest release from Softpedia. More details can be found on its website.
