What is Emblem FOR LINUX?

Emblem is a stylish, and super easy-to-use Linux application that's part of the GNOME Circle. Its main purpose is to provide GNOME developers (or community contributors) with a quick way of generating project avatars.

Even though it's mainly designed for generating stylish avatars for Matrix rooms and Git Forges, it can also be used as an icon creator.

Emblem is a relatively new design tool that is designed to work around the fact that when you set up a GitLab project avatar, once you put a logo at the root of the project, you can manually set a project avatar (as it's picked up automatically).

The app is powered by GTK4-RS, librsvg, and Libadwaita, meaning it's very pleasant to the eyes, no matter what Linux distro you install it on (however, of course, it's mostly designed for GNOME).

For starters, you can choose Symbol from the bottom part of the app's GUI. Once that is done, you can choose either a color or a gradient, you can opt for a Light or Dark theme (or it can be set to Auto), and choose between either a round or square design for the avatar.

The app features two preview windows, one for the color/gradient, and the other for the final result. You can also choose between two file formats, either PNG or SVG, and that's about it.

While Emblem won't find much popularity among the typical GNOME user, it will for sure be useful for those who are involved with GNOME and the GNOME circle.

Embled is part of various other, new-age design tools that are bound to greatly increase the experience of developers and designers.
