Elk is a super handy note-taking app for Mac OS X that’s lightweight and easy to use. One of its coolest features is that it syncs with Dropbox, so you won't lose your notes. The interface is a lot like TextEdit, which makes it feel familiar right away.

Getting Started with Elk

When you first open Elk, you’ll see a clean blank window that looks a lot like the native TextEdit app on your Mac. The top toolbar has all the formatting options you need—think font type, size, family, paragraph styles, bullet points, and even line spacing. It’s pretty much everything you'd expect!

Organizing Your Notes

The best part about Elk? You can create notes and sort them into categories! There’s a neat little sidebar that pops up when you click on its yellow edge, making it easy to navigate through your different categories.

Manage Your Notebooks

In this sidebar, you can create new notebooks or edit existing ones. Each notebook can hold as many notes as you want! You can open them up in order of when they were created and even rename or delete notes whenever needed. Plus, if you want to share or link something from one note to another, that's easy too!

Customize Your Writing Experience

You can also personalize your writing with the top toolbar options. Another plus? Elk uses OS X's default contextual menu options which means grammar checking and text substitutions are just a click away.

Search & Sync Features

A few other cool features include searching for specific text within your notes and using keyboard shortcuts for quicker navigation. And yes—if you're worried about losing anything, Elk lets you connect with Dropbox so backing up and restoring your notes is a breeze!
