E-UAE is an awesome version of the Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator, and it's really cool because it's based on WinUAE. This project is all about bringing some of the best features of WinUAE to platforms that aren't Windows. And guess what? It finally has a name—E-UAE! People have been calling it that anyway, so it makes sense. The 'E' can mean whatever you want: experimental, exciting, or even eggplant!
E-UAE works on various systems like Linux and other Unices, Mac OS X, BeOS, and AmigaOS itself. Whether you're using a 68k machine or a PPC machine with AmigaOS 4.0 or one of its clones like MorphOS and AROS, you’re in luck! Just keep in mind that if you're on OS X, you’ll need LibSDL or an X server for graphics. However, native graphics are supported on AmigaOS and BeOS too, but right now SDL is preferred on BeOS since the native driver isn’t fully finished.
One great thing about E-UAE is that it's open-source software! It's available under the GNU GPL terms. This means lots of people have contributed to making it better over time. Notable contributors include Bernd Schmidt (the original author), Bernie Meyer (who created the x86 JIT compiler), Toni Wilen (the main person behind WinUAE), and many others who’ve helped along the way.
If you want to get the most out of E-UAE, you'll need access to an image of an Amiga Kickstart ROM version. Don’t worry; UAE does come with some ROM emulation that might work with older games. Just remember that these ROMs are copyrighted material and can’t be shared freely (so please don’t ask!). If you don’t own an Amiga from which you can legally create a ROM image, you can buy some online from Cloanto—they're the folks behind the Amiga Forever distribution.
