What is DVM?

DVM

DVM (D Version Manager) is a cool open-source tool that helps you download and install D compilers easily. If you're working with different versions of these compilers, this software makes managing them a breeze!

Why Use DVM?

With DVM, when you switch between D compilers using the Use command, the selected compiler will only be available in the current shell. This means you can have one version of the compiler running in one shell while using a completely different version in another! How convenient is that?

Getting Started with DVM

If you're wondering how to use this program, no worries! You can find instructions on the project’s GitHub page. Plus, once you launch it, you'll see helpful instructions right there in the command-line window. And if you ever need to check those instructions again, just type “-h”!

Simple Commands for Managing Compilers

DVM offers a set of simple commands that let you:

  • Install one or more versions of D compilers.

  • Set your current shell to use a specific version of a D compiler.

  • Compile DMD and standard libraries.

  • Fetch a D compiler without actually installing it.

  • View all installed compilers and uninstall any you don’t need.

Extra Features

A bunch of extra options are also at your fingertips! You can set up a default D compiler for new shells, grab the latest compiler, install Tango as your standard library, show additional output, and even manage prompts. It's all about making your coding life easier!
