What is dvdrtools FOR LINUX?

dvdrtools is a fork of cdrtools, with the primary goal of supporting writable DVD drives.

The initial version was released February 4, 2002.

dvdrtools is a suite of software based on cdrtools for writing DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, and CD-RW media.

Other modifications compared to cdrtools include:

- Replacing the build system with standard autoconf/automake
- Cleaning up and stripping down the code
- Our primary development platform is Linux, and we like doing things the Linux way (dev=/dev/whatever, not 0,0,0)
- Addition of tools for handling video DVDs
- We don't believe in artificially extending the life cycle of obsolete technologies (like C compilers that can't even handle ANSI). For the sake of readability, support for some really obsolete systems has been removed.
- This is a community project, maintained in a subversion repository. If you wish to join us, you get write access after showing us some code.

dvdrtools also includes basic support for mastering video DVDs.
