What is DoubleType?

Glyphs are stored in XML based file to aid collaboration using existing tools such as CVS. DoubleType allows you to efficiently design glyphs by combining existing glyphs and modules. It is a project aimed at creating an open-source typeface designer that can generate TrueType fonts.

The original motive behind DoubleType was to create open-source, TrueType Japanese typefaces. To achieve this goal, an efficient, cross-platform typeface designer that accommodates team development of a typeface was needed. The project is currently in progress, and the development alpha version is available for feedback.

Basic features such as copy & paste and the generation of TrueType fonts have been implemented, allowing users to download and play around with the software. DoubleType is designed to make glyph design and typeface development more accessible and collaborative.
