Description
The Dock is a quintessential part of the macOS experience, but we can’t really do all that much to customize it. A few settings are available in macOS, but if you really want to personalize it, you’ll need a third-party app.
DockFix does this in two ways: it can either provide a few more customization options for the native Dock or replace it entirely with a custom Dock that can be tweaked in-depth.
If you only want a few more features for the native Dock, the free version of the app will be enough. It enables you to customize more aspects of the Dock’s functionality and appearance than what macOS allows by default.
For instance, you can tweak the Dock animation speed, completely remove the hide/show delay, change the number of launchpad rows and columns, or add spacers to keep things organized.
Of course, the app’s best features are reserved for the custom Dock. Not only does it look great, much better than the native Dock in my opinion, but it can be customized to a much greater extent.
For example, you can fine-tune its position, change its background color and opacity, tweak the corner radius and app spacing, enable a time and date display, and prevent certain apps from being shown in the Dock.
You can even turn it into a full-width taskbar similar to what you get on Windows, with app icons placed either in the center, left, or right. Unlike the native Dock, it can be moved to the top of the desktop or any of the screen corners, giving you a ton of flexibility for your workspaces.
One downside is that you can’t drop items onto the custom Dock’s icons to open them in their respective apps.
DockFix is a brilliant app. Its Dock replacer looks better and is much more customizable than the native one, with features that Apple should honestly add to macOS at some point. It also offers more personalization for the native Dock for free, but the paid version is where the best functionality can be found.
