DlisBrowser is a software app that's designed to help users view geophysical log data files. If you're dealing with text format files like LAS, you can easily open them using any ASCII editor since their layout is straightforward and easy to grasp.
On the flip side, binary format files such as LIS and DLIS (RP66) are a bit trickier. You can't just use a text editor for these types of files. They’re more complex, which makes it tough to figure out what's inside using just a hex editor.
This is where DlisBrowser comes in handy! It allows you to view the full structure of LIS and DLIS files in an easy-to-understand format. You can see all the logical records that make up these files, including some auxiliary records that typical processing programs might miss.
The way DlisBrowser presents this info is super user-friendly. It shows logical records like a hierarchical tree. Each record appears as a branch that can have other branches. For instance, the Reel Header Logical Record (RHLR) has several Tape Header Logical Records (THLR), and each THLR can contain multiple File Header Logical Records (FHLR). Each FHLR may also include Information Records (type 34), Data Format Specification Record (type 64), Data (type 0), and more!
You’ll love how DlisBrowser displays the content of each record in a separate window tailored for that specific record. If any record holds data in different representation codes, don’t worry! The data will be printed in various colors for easy identification.
