Dir 2 File is a super handy app that helps you create an index of all the files and subfolders in a directory. It even lets you save that index to a file for later review! How cool is that?
This app supports multiple output formats like ASP, HTML, CSV, XLS, and TXT. So whether you want to keep track of important files or just want everything organized, Dir 2 File makes it easy!
Heads up! Users should know that Dir 2 File hasn’t been updated in a while. Because of this, some stability issues might pop up. We tried using it on Windows 7 and XP but ran into some hiccups.
You’ll need administrative rights to run this app. The interface looks like an Explorer-based folder structure which gives you quick access to your directories—pretty user-friendly!
If you want to export all items from a folder, it’s super simple! Just choose where you want the output file saved, give it a name, pick a format, and you're good to go. The HTML option even allows customization with background colors, text colors, font names, sizes, and link colors!
The exported file includes key details for each item like its name, size, path (short and long), and type (file or folder). You can see all these properties right in the main window.
Dir 2 File also offers options to create new folders in your current location or delete/rename items easily. There’s even a backup feature available; however, we couldn't test it out since the app crashed whenever we tried.
This software is really light on system resources! It could have been an awesome app for indexing files if only those stability issues weren’t there. Still, users with all levels of experience are welcome to give Dir 2 File a try!
